The last thing you want in these chilly, winter months is for your home to be cold and uncomfortable. Here are signs that it’s time to replace your furnace.
If your furnace is 10-15 years old, it is time for a furnace replacement. Make sure that your breakers and shut off switches are still working efficiently and are properly set to heat. To ensure that you are getting the most out of your aging furnace, be sure to clean out dusty and clogged filters, swapping them out for new ones to have a clean airflow.
Different Room Temperatures
If different rooms in your house have different temperatures, this is a sign that your furnace is getting older and less efficient. As your furnace ages, it becomes harder to evenly distribute heat throughout the house, resulting in various cold rooms.
As the furnace works harder to produce heat, this can also gradually increase your electricity bill. Scheduling a heater repair is a good, temporary fix – but a repair on an aging furnace isn’t the best course of action for the long run.
If you suddenly hear noises as the heat kicks in, this is another sign of a dying furnace. Rattling noises are indicators of loose screws, unsecure ducts or lower motors being unbalanced. If you hear humming that becomes unbearable, this is a sign that the blower motor needs replacing. Screeching sounds are likely indicators that the interior is damaged and worn out.
