Did you know that 10 out of 10 people prefer to have a working, energy-efficient HVAC system? We have no scientifically polled data to back up that claim – but we do have the common sense to assume the average homeowner would prefer to spend their money on a working, energy-efficient HVAC system. So why don’t we take the same approach when it comes to hiring an HVAC Contractor? For most, the heating and cooling properties of our homes have become essential. This is why is so important to look at everything when it comes to air conditioning services. Here are a few things to keep in mind when it comes to choosing the right HVAC contractor.
Are they licensed
We know this sounds crazy. You might be thinking, “Why would I ever hire someone who isn’t certified?” Unfortunately, there are many contractors who say they are licensed but are not. It is possible that these contractors once had a license and never renewed it or they learned the necessary skill set on their own. Make sure you go with a licensed company and licensed technicians who are the most up to date on HVAC system technology and can ensure that your system will be fixed properly.
Over the phone estimates
If an HVAC contractor tries to give you an over the phone estimate for work on your system, let that be a big red flag. An over the phone estimate will not be accurate due to the fact there are several elements that go into the cost of the repair that the technician will have to see with his or her own eyes – things like the types of windows, insulation and ductwork you have in your home. When it comes time to choose the HVAC company that is best for you, make sure they are giving you on-site repair estimates.
Don’t always go with the best deal
At the end of the day, the lowest bidder is not always going to provide you with the highest-quality work. Although the initial payment will be cheaper than other contractors you talked to, it is likely that you will be calling them back out for repairs sooner than expected – and before you know it, you’re paying higher than the highest bidder. There is more to choosing the best HVAC contractor than price alone. Look into Google and Yelp reviews to hear opinions from previous customers.
